Buy Up Those Specials and Save

When people sit down to budget and plan to save they often look at cutting back on luxury spending. I don't know about you but I spend far more on necessities than I do on luxuries. So I need to cut back expenditure on both if I want to save more.

One place I regularly spend a heap is at the supermarket. I shop at the same one each week. It's a very short drive from home and I know where just about everything I need can be found. I could probably shop around, or shop at several and save a bit of money but I don't have the time to spare for that. I'd need to balance the car/fuel expenditure against possible savings as well.

So I've looked at ways to shave a few dollars from my average weekly supermarket bill. One way to do this is by watching out for and buying things on special. It's only a bargain if I use it so I only buy the things I would normally buy, I just buy more of them when they're on special. A couple of weeks ago I saved $2.40 buying orange juice and about $4 buying chicken fillets and I have enough of both to last about a month.
