Castles
Nothing better evokes the atmosphere of the middle ages than the sight of a castle. Although the SCA does not involve itself much with castles a meeting on them can prove interesting.
Materials Required
As many pictures of as many different types of castles as you can humanly get your hands on. Try a few books on the topic.
Meeting Outline
The natural way to run this meeting is to go through castle types chronologically. Start with the old Celtic hill forts and the European walled cities and progress from there. You will have to rely fairly heavily on your own research but a few things that could be covered are the castles of King John in Wales, the art of the siege and the castles of the crusaders in the Holy Land.
Possible Problems
This meeting requires an awful lot of research.
Other Options
Fun group acivities may include:
- Design a castle
- Plan how to siege a castle whose layout and structure are provided
Resources and References
