Astronomy
There are two distinct approaches that can be taken to an SCA meeting on Astronomy. The first is a straightforward account of how Astronomy became a science and worked its way towards the Copernican model of the Solar system. The other is to do more of an Astrology talk. I will concentrate on the former here and leave the latter for another section.
Materials Required
Meeting Outline
The most natural outline for this is a chronological progression up to the day theories of Copernicus and Galileo.
Possible Problems
As things stand the meeting is very dry, not having much interaction with the audience.
Other Options
- Did people really think that the world was flat? Geography played a big part in the later theories on Astronomy. Astronomy also played an influential role in the development of Geography. The Geography of the Middle Ages could form an entire meeting on its own.
- Build an Astrolabe.
