If you want to set up the mac for ppp (The best way of connecting IMHO) is to get a copy of mac ppp from archie.au.
archie.au:/pub/micros/mac/info-mac/comm/tcp
Next set up your ppp client as follows
Click on new and type in Monash 1 or something appropriate, then click on ok. Click on the config button and set up the port speed for your modem.
The number should be valid annex number (you can get a list from the Computer Center.
Your modem init string should be something like at&f
Then click on the connect script button the script should be set up as follows (x signifies a check box selection)
out wait cr
x username:
x myusername x
x password:
x myannexpassword x
x ready:
x ppp x
Then click ok when finished.
The control pannel MacTCP should be set up as follows click on more button, then the server radio button. make sure the sub mask is in B and 255.255.255.0
The domain should be set to .cc.monash.edu.au the default button selected and the dns server should be 130.194.1.99.
Thats about it, go back to the config ppp control panel and click open, just make sure the termial window option is not displayed.
To run slirp from a non firewalled unix account (virtual ppp from unix box which allows you to bypass the annex firewall):-
Download a binary copy of slirp that will run on your unix account. To Log in, login to the annex using either the terminal window or using homer serial.
If your using homer serial create a macintosh ppp sesion with no script or telephone num (ie a blank one)
Then login into your unix account and type slirp [return]. ([return] means the return or enter key).
After that quit homer serial and select the blank macintosh ppp sesion from MacPPP you created earlier.
OR if your using the terminal screen click on the ok button.
