Joining
the club:
Membership
of the Monash University Waterski Club is open to all members of the Monash
Sports and Recreation Association. All students at Monash are already
members of Sports and Rec. To find out eligibility criteria and how to
join Sports and Rec, please visit their website.
Students of
other universities may be eligible to join their club. Please check our
links section for other clubs websites.
Present membership
and ski fees are under review, but just as an idea, membership will be
around $15 and skis will still be around $5. This represents great value
against the rising costs of equipment and petrol.
Skiing:
Currently we
mainly ski at:
Carrum:
The National Watersports Centre is located around 20 minutes south of
Monash. It is great because of its proximity to Uni, but as it was designed
as an olympic rowing course - it is exposed to the wind. I guess thats
probably no good for rowing either, but weather conditions aren't the
best. Carrum is best for midweek skiing.
Bridgewater:
The Loddon River at Bridgewater is located around 20km west of Bendigo,
and around a 2 hour drive from Uni. While the river is narrow it is a
great place to practice your tournament skiing for IV. There is a jump
and slalom course fully maintained by the Bridgewater Ski Club. The caravan
park is great, it is in close proximity to a great pub (read walking distance)
and normally far enough away from Melbourne's bad weather.
Deniliquin:
If you have been hanging around anyone that has been away with us - you
would have heard of the infamous "Deni" The future of Deni looks
a little bleaker with the recent passing of our beloved "Brucey",
but Gwen vows to fight on by herself. All of the Victorian Universities
go to Deni each summer, therefore it is a great place to party. Membership
of the RSL - the sponsor of our annual Wipeout weekend is only $2, and
there are a heap of places fighting for our business. Now the Central
is open till around 4am, there can be some wild parties. Other than that
the Edwards River - which this year will have lots of water unlike previous
years, is a great place to ski. There is also a slalom course set up at
different times of the year for people to have a shot at. Deni is located
around 300kms from Melbourne, or an easy 3.5 hour drive.
Hazelwood:
Winters are always good at Hazelwood. The lesser known pondage down at
Morwell is heated from the Hazelwood Power Station. Hazelwood is the only
place where you would rather stay in the water than be skiing / boarding
ontop. It is only around 1.5 hours from uni so until the weather heats
up we will be making a few treks down there.
