MEGA - THE WASHING DAY PANTS

Lunch Time SOCCER!
For this year's Competition, a new era of captaincy has resulted in the MEGA logo being worn by a team named as a wonderful homage to the post-graduate-renting quirk of not having enough pants. This 1st semester 2005 team got dicked bad, missing the finals in the last game due to some bad refing, and unsportsman like opposition....Well, I'll let you read the results down the page for more!

Fixture:

Just one week after destroying lowly Inter "West Hampton" United, the Washing Day Pants have bettered their record win, with an 11-2 drubbing of BMWBallbusters - all without their injured General in the backfield Karlis, and their leading Striker, reigning golden boot Andy!. Full match report here including scores, fixture and progress score in the MEGA Perpetual Golden Boot Award.

Recap of Week 5
What a trouncing. Unfortunately the ref prevented a clean sheet AGAIN! - Same ref, this time a non-hand-ball call resulted in one goal, and a non-running-into-the-goalie-box resulted in another.
Despite these hurdles, Washing-Day-Pants put the game in a strong position with a 4-0 first half. Kumi opened the scoring in the opening few minutes after a Martin ping sailed wide. Min's second shot resulted in the second goal, and after a some dashing play by Kumi to set up some shots, and take a few himself, Min put away the third. Mukunthun warmed up with a great assit from Timberlake, before opening his account to give the half-time score.
The second half started on the defensive, before a couple of Kumi pings put the game back on the 'Pant's footing. Then the Kumi show began, with a goal from the right-pocket, followed by a miraculous solo run for a second, then a third right-pocket goal put the game beyond the 'Ballbusters. A JTL pocket shot, and a Martin 1/3-court ping opened for the second act, the Tom show. Scores from 1/3-court, and off an intercepted pass gave Tom two in two minutes. After that, things went a little slower, with players reluctant to sub, and slowing down. This resulted in the two controversial goals, but Mukunthun managed to get them back nearly straight-away!
(Goals: KK-4, MK-3, TM-2, ML-2)

Week 4: More of a training drill than a game, with Andy putting the game away with a hat-trick in the first five minutes of the game. But the measure of this team is the ability of the Washing Day Pants to substitute Andy for the Krishna Bros., with each chipping in for one.
Highlights of the game included: The calm poise with which Karlis was able to hold the back line together with pin-point passing out of defence; Andy taking his typical strangle-hold on the Golden-Boot trophy; The free-flowing passing game of the Washing Day Pants forwards to easily put away mistakes; Karlis having his first shot on goal blocked by the keeper only to have the rebound second shot sail just wide of the right post, keeping his career tally on DUCK; and the botched interchange between Karlis and Kumi which resulted in loosing Tawfik's clean-sheet - not that he had any problems anyway!!
Other notes include JTL taking great shots in the first half, and Tom taking fantastic shooting practice in the second half, to ensure the Washing Day Pants put on a show for their hard-core fan club!! (Goals: AC-6, MG-1, KK-1, MK-1)

Week 3: It was always too much to hope that this season's referees would be better than last time - the first two weeks giving us all a breath of fresh air. But alas it wasn't to last. With Tom opening the scoring, and Martin regaining the lead after a team drop in concentration, the Washing Day Pants went to the break with the 2-1 lead and the physical/psychological edge. But then it all went pearshaped: After Tom drew level with a brilliant 1-2-3 with Andy and Martin, his third was dissalowed for Tom (Quote) "running into the box AFTER the goal" (end quote). But then the inconsistencies really started to hit, with high-balls not being called, tripping over the ball was deemed a foul-received, and then the pearler of the day, with Tawfik stopping a fantastic one-out shot on goal with his stomach-groin-combination, doubling over in pain placed four fingers over the keeper's box - literally four fingers of the right hand - giving SICC a NOTHER penalty. A Tom-Andy 1-2 up the right-hand curtain gave the third, but by then it was all over. Karlis did manage to get this beauty of a quote out of the ref after Tom's disallowed third, but that didn't seem to wash ('scuse the pun) with him:
Karlis:"The play was dead! If you call that, then call them all!"
Dickhead:"I've been doing this for fifteen years"
Karlis:"Are you pulling RANK ON ME?"

Martin later suggested it's 15 years wasted if that was the result, with Aran offering job-seeker advice. Nice try, Karlis, but get back to playing the game.
(Goals: TM,MG,TM)

Week 2: In an incredibly physical tussle, Andy opened the Washing Day Pants' account when The Incredibles' goalie conceded a penalty for stepping out of his box for a second time. Entering the second half at 1-0 up, a goal was conceded when the defence was picked appart by a scorching run through Karlis and Krishna, with David in goals stopping all shots but this one. Then Karlis sat at the top of the key, Mukunthun ran a slant pattern behind Karlis, and after running the ball up the left wall, Kumi fired a pass to his elder brother, who slotted home the winner. (Goals: AC-Pen, MK)

Week 1: Week one saw the New Washing Day Pants pepper the goals all match, before Karlis subbed himself off, and three quick goals were scored in the dying moments of the second half. One late goal was unfortunately conceded as Washing Day Pants opened their 2005 campaign with a 3-1 victory. (Goals: MG,AC,MK)
