Air Con Solution!
Yes, it appears as though all those years contracting air-conditioning has paid off in the quick and simple solution to our climate control problems! Here's a transcript of a possible conversation:
Stelios: Air con don't work
Dumbarsecontractor: This is the second place we’ve ever built. The system is perfect. Must be the students.
Students: Dumb-arse contractor.
We also remind Stelios that the solution is actually visible from his office window: Move the baffles 1m away from the fan to remove the blade-pass frequency!!!
Post Script: It has also been alledged, that the Wall Of Protest was attacked by one of these dumbarse contractors, and that Karlis put him in his place.
(24/11/05) Identified!
 The black-faced cuckoo shrike |
This is the bird that has been spotting iteself in the windows of the northern (ne South Central) end of the post-grad cube farm. It is a black-faced cuckoo shrike, and has been identified by none-other than our closest bird-spotter and clib treasurer Naomi.
Apparantly it is wide-spread and common throughout Australia, and has "curious habit of shuffling their wings upon landing" although there seems to be no mention of flying into windows. I once had a pidgeon kill itself on our balcony windows when it flew straight into the mirrored laminate.

(19/9/05) A New Soccer Champion
Tutoring 2005
| Seems we’re getting screwed on preparation time again. I recommend noone do any more preparation once their 10hrs allocation is exhausted (max:week 10). |
He’s done it again, our Dominik! |
To recall a message from Tutoring Head Owen Gould, MEGA Vice-President:
The department is now co-ordinating the allocations of tutors and
demonstrators themselves this year. Not much will be changed except that
forms need to be returned to Helen Frost or Terry Bereen instead of me.
The main reason for this change is to monitor hours taken on by tutors.
Forms can be downloaded from the top of this website, and by select the tutoring link "here".
Any further enquiries, please don’t hesitate to contact either Helen or myself.

Anyone can play, so long as you're a MEGArian (friend or member) and can run up and down a basket-ball court without tripping over yourself.

Wallpaper!
With the new office layout, most of us have found that there is now no possibility of viewing our monitors without someone looking over our shoulder. But for those lucky few that can, this wallpaper will keep you in line. Maybe not in the same big-brother way, but in the more pro-active, and grown-up manner, namely, the You're-old-enough-to-look-after-your-own-research-time stance. Happy wallpapering! |

Automatically Generate Journal Papers!
Catholicism is a beautiful thing. |
After reading a report on ABC news, I was able to get approval from some people at MIT to put a link to their website, which automatically generates a Journal Paper for you, including references and figures. It is currently in a form that creates Software-Electronics papers, but wouldn't it be great to apply it to your own!
http://pdos.lcs.mit.edu/scigen |
| It's written in Perl, so if you''re going to download the software, let me know if you know how to get it working on your personal computer. You can also donate to their cause - current tally $2401.43, up from $2396.88 after a $4.55 donation. |
