Socials
Come to our social nights on a fortnightly basis during the semester. These
nights include a dance lesson with plenty of time to dance socially and
supper. During the theme nights, we will have professional instructors
running the lesson. You will find us boogie-ing away in the
Campus Centre, Building 10, Clayton Campus.
Time: TBA
Cost: TBA
Refreshments: Supper and drinks.
Melbourne Uni also hold social dance nights on alternate fortnights to MDS
Socials. You will need to turn up at Frank Tate Gym or the Grand Buffet for
more dancing! Click here
for more details.

Dance camp
Each year during Easter time, MDS runs a weekend camp for Monash Uni’s
fun-loving danced-crazed people. The camp is organised jointly with Melbourne
University Dance Club and is held at recreation centres outside the city. We
aim to facilitate a fun and social evironment for dance lovers to get to know
each other and develop friendships through the common interest of dancing.
The itinerary for the camp includes daytime dance classes led by the
fantastic instructors of either clubs, informal lessons in progressive dances
at night (usually taught by club committee members) and loads of
opportunities over the weekend to dance socially and get to know fellow dance
enthusiasts. For those who are hyper, extra curricular activities such as
canoeing, bike riding, swimming, orientation courses (eg: ropes course, flying
fox) and indoor games (eg: table tennis, pool, board games) are available for
the challenge as the recreation centre permits.

Medal night
Come on and strut your stuff! Medal Night is held in September each year
on a Friday night at Monash
University. This is
when you can showcase the dance routines you've been learning throughout the
year. Whilst participation in Medal Night is optional, we would encourage you
to come round and make a clean sweep of your medals with your moves on the
dance floor. Besides, this is so much more exciting when compared to the more
stressful classroom-type examinations! It’ll be a night to remember for
sure.

Competitions
MDS sponsors club members to join in dance competitions during the year.
These include the Crown International, the DMA competition (June), FATD
(August) and Waverley Dance Festival (November). There are events for all
dance sport styles as well as theatrical jazz and hip hop. MDS usually enters
couples as well as a team event for the progressive latin and new vogue. Join
our mailing list to keep up to date with competition news!

Dinner dance 2008 - TBA!
MDS and our Melbourne Uni counterpart (MUDC) join hands to organise the
one gala event every year: the Annual Dance Sport Ball. The get-together is
scheduled a week after Medal Night - when the latest moves are still fresh in
the minds of those attending. This should then see to a successful evening out-on-the-town!
The Annual Dance Sport Ball is essentially planned around a central theme,
with a consistent design element applied to decor and dress. Complemented by
a 3-course meal, and professional and club floorshows to boot, this is an
event you just cannot miss! There will be all-night dancing made even more
merry with medallists receiving their hard earned medal awards! Salute!
