Korean Society Constitution
 
I.  NAME: 
    The name of the society shall be Korean Society of Hanlim hereinafter referred to as "the society". 
II. AIMS: 
    To promote understanding of Korean culture, history, economy, politics and so forth and to consolidate friendship between Korean and other students at Monash University. 
III.AFFILIATION: 
    1.  Clubs and Societies clause: 
        The provisions of this constitution shall be construed subject to the provisions of the constitution of the Clubs and Societies Council and anything in this constitution which conflicts with the constitution of the Clubs and SocietiesCouncil or with a standing resolution made under that constitution shall, to the extent of the conflict, be without force or effect.  Where a costitution or a standing resolution of the Clubs and Societies Council makes provision for a matter or thing not otherwise provided for in this constitution, that provision shall take effect as if it were contained in this constitution. 
    2.  The society is also an affiliate of KOSAV.  Anything in this Constitution which conflicts with the constitution of that Association shall be inoperative, unless this conflicts with 3.1, in which case the Clubs and Societies Constitution shall apply. 
IV. MEMBERSHIP: 
    1.  Annual fee and duration of membership 
        The annual fee for membership (if any) shall be set by the committee.  Membership shall run from the payment of the fee or, if there is no fee, from approval of the membership application until the third Friday of March of the following year or until the member ceases to be eligible for membership which ever is the earliest. 
    2.  Ordinary Membership 
        Membership shall be open to all members of staff and students of Monash University in Clayton who subscribe to the aims of the society, and who pay the annual membership subscription (if any) as determined by the Committee. 
    3.  Associate Club Members 
        Associate club membership, which shall not total more than ten percent of all membership or fifteen people, whichever is lesser, shall be open to persons other than members of staff or students who subscribe to the aims of the society, such membership to be determined by the committee. 
    4.  Honorary Membership 
        Honoary membership may be conferred on those who have made substantial contribution to the society or three years of active participation as ordinary members as determined by the committee at a society gerneral meeing.  An honorary member who is not a student or a member of staff shall not be allowed to hold elected office, receive direct Clubs and Societies Council subsidies, borrow equipment, or vote. 
    5.  Disapproval of Membership 
        1.  A member may only be expelled or an applicant may only be refused membership by a decision of a general meeting of the society.  That person must receive seven days written notice of the date, time, and place of the meeting, of the fact that his or her membership or continued membership of the society would be considered at the meeting and that he or she could attend that gerneral meeting and be heard prior to a decision being made. 
        2.  Any person whose membership application is revoked or refused may appeal to the Clubs and Societies Executive within twenty calendar days.  The Executive's decision shall be binding.
