Throughout the years, there has been a number of memorable trips and events within the group.
Here is recollection of just a few of the most recent ones...

Annual National Conference
7 July - 11 July 1999

  • Back to Camp Narbethong......brrrrr.......well I know for sure that there is heated water, nice fireplace and snuggly lounge area.
  • If I was not mistaken, the temperature ranged from 1 degree to 14 degree for the four nights we were there.
  • There are some highlights of the trip.
    • The praise and worship night was on the top of the list. It was wonderfully presented, thanks to our talented brothers and sisters.
    • Fun night was fantastic, I think Kenneth and Stephen really discovered that they go well together when it comes to performing a duet. The theme of the fun night this year was back to the '70s and I can guarantee, it was not just the "oldies" who were enjoying themselves. That night was also an opportunity for many brothers and sisters to come out of the closet and display their hiddent talents.
    • Pictionary night was also a memorable one. You'd think drawing a peacock would be easy. Well, not so for both Felix and Ben! Furthermore, next time we know better to bring dictionaries for both Stephen and Kenneth!
    • There are many more small events that I don't think will fit this web page.
Puffing Billy trip
3 April 1999

  • It was quite disappointing that our annual easter trip was cancelled due to some admnistrative misunderstanding. However, the day trip to Puffing Billy was well worth the cancelled weekend trip.
  • The ride on the big, old Puffing Billy was rocky but interesting for those (all of us in fact) who had never ridden on a steam train before.
  • Some chose to sit on the edge and hang their feet down the side of the carriage. Little did they realise that they were showered with the residue of the coals.
  • The water paddle was more than some of use bargained for. We thought that 15 minutes of paddling was a piece of cake. Little did we know that after 10 minutes of paddling, some of us could not even stand on the ground without our legs shaking. Time to get that fitness level up!
  • The search for easter eggs was just a nice end to a long day. It was too bad that some of the eggs were either melted by the sun before anyone got to them or were picked up by some curious passerby. But hey, why not share some with our neighbours?
  • The trip back on the train was a tiring one. Those who were very chatty and jumpy earlier could be seen sitting with their heads nodding off once in a while, sleeping soundly and rocked gently by the old Billy.
Satay night
6 Feb 1999

  • We welcome new (and not so new) international (and local) students from Monash University (and others) to Melbourne, especially to Monash International Students Navigators.
  • Satay....barbequed corn....assorted meat......topped up with nice deserts.......that's what you should be expecting on our annual satay night.
Dromana trip
19 Feb - 21 Feb 1999

  • Dromana.......a little town located off the Port Phillips Bay in the Mornington Penninsula with its beautiful beaches and friendly locals. A nice place to relax before university starts again.
  • The house we stayed in was immaculate. It was only about 10 minutes away from the beach.
  • Beach volleyball, swimming, walks down the beach, topped with barbeque for dinner were some of the highlights of the trip. Some of us also decided to take some time and admire the beauty of cloudless night by star gazing.
Weekend trip to Camp Narbethong
September 1998

  • While most Melbournians suffered from cold shower, we all enjoyed the nice, gas-heated, hot water shower at Camp Narbethong. You never appreciated the gas-heated water until the privilege was taken away from you.
  • It was a study retreat trip and it was just what was needed when we were all so bogged down with university work.
  • While some of us decided to do some studying during the camp, some decided to take the well-deserved break and enjoyed the beauty of the place.
  • One unforgettable event was the hiking trip at the Cathedral Ranges. We often bumped into the locals, such as a confused koala in the middle of the road, a wallaby and a lyre bird. However, the climb up was a memorable one for a brother and a sister and although it was a trrifying journey up and down, it was worthwhile.
National Conference at Phillip Island
July 1998

  • It was an opportunity to meet and catch up with brothers and sisters from Melbourne University and NSW.
  • Quite a nice place, right near the beach.
  • The best part of the place was the heating and bathroom in each room. But apparently the facilities were only available for the gals but not the guys. Sorry guys!
Annual Easter trip
April 1998

  • This time we decided to go to Ballarat and stayed in a farm house, thanks to a nice offer from a sister and her family.
  • Along the way to Ballarat, we decided to visit the Weribee open range zoo, the Weribee mansion and rose garden and some of us decided to visit the beach instead.
  • The hike on the Grampians was a memorable one. It was very satisfying when we reached the pinnacle although at times the walk was quite scary. It took us approxmiately two hours up and two hours down and one advice we can give to those who plan to visit the Grampians, take the warning of strenous walking seriously! I mean, I have to emphasise on the word "strenous"!

Well, that's all for now. There are many more activities that are not mentioned here. If you're interested to know more, we would be more than happy to be contacted by you. In the meantime, keep your eye on our next upcoming activities!

There are some nice happy snaps due to be posted shortly. They are being processed (scanned) at the moment.
