Friday 18th July, 5:30pm.
Last year the pizza was a huge hit, so we figure when you're onto a good thing, stick with it.
Friday will be an informal gathering over Pizza at the venue so that you can
come and go between bouts. Meet the other fencers, officials, and random
hangers-on while watching sabre and enjoying all the pan-baked goodness
you can eat. Pay your $10 before 5:30 and you get to nominate your favourite
topping for inclusion! Arrive later and you're stuck with other people's
preferences.
This will also be an ideal time to see if your weapons will pass check, and
pay your entry fees so you don't have to line up at 9am Saturday morning
to do it!
Sabre referees get pizza for free.
Saturday 19th July, 6:00pm.
Movie night, screening two good swashbuckling movies - D'Artangan's Daughter and
The Court Jester, as well as
a couple of shorter features, with hot popcorn, cold drinks and jaffas on hand.
This will be held on the Monash campus, a short distance from the competition venue.
Plastic seating and video projection will combine
to provide you with a genuine Monash Fencing Club Cinema Experience.
Entry is $2, and food will be sold cheap.
Note that there are showers available in the Sports centre, so if you don't
live nearby you can still clean up on campus and go straight to the movie night
after competition finishes. We will have some cheap dinner-type food available
as well as the traditional snack foods, or you can order more pizza.
Saturday referees get free entry and a free cup of popcorn.
Sunday 20th July, 7:00pm.
This year the Presentation Dinner will be held at "The Flamin' Bull" Restaurant
on Lygon St. This three course dinner showcases a unique and very tasty blend
of traditional and modern Australian Cuisine, vegetarians also catered for.
There is a bar at the venue, and as well as the medals and trophies we will
also be giving away a door prize. It will be a night to remember, and the central
location provides a host of after-dinner options for those who don't have to
get up in the morning. It's also well located to give interstate fencers a quick
and easy getaway to the airport after dinner.
We need to book this before the competition actually starts, so if you book your
place *before* July 15th (ie: contact us and say you're coming - you can pay on friday
or saturday) you pay $30 per ticket. Captains - Why not book a table for your
entire team?!
People with special dietary requirements, including vegetarians,
will be catered for and can discuss their needs with the restaurant on the night.
If you want to buy tickets during the event without a pre-booking, you'll pay
$35, and places will be limited. Pre-booked tickets not paid for by the end
of saturday will be put up for general sale.
"But", you say, "I don't know if I'll win anything!". Well, be optimistic!
But seriously, while the excuse for the dinner is to hand out medals, there's a
lot more to it than just that. It's fun, the folks who came last year all
said it was great despite the lack of bongo-drummer, and this year we'll have
more elbow room. The Novice Tournament only happens once a year, so treat
yourself to a great night out!
Sunday referees get $5 discount on their Dinner tickets.
For enquiries or to book a place in any of the events listed, e-mail Lisa at
fencing@pobox.com.
Saturday and Sunday
Food and drink will be available at the venue throughout the day.
This includes soft drinks, hot drinks and fruit juice, sandwiches, soup,
snackfood, and whatever else we come up with.
We're also planning a bottomless coffee cup service to help people get
started in the morning, and if you missed breakfast to make roll call
you can grab some toast and juice at the venue, we'll also have crumpets
and cereal.
On Friday night you'll also be able to buy soft drink to go with your pizza if
the free juice doesn't satisfy you, and coffee and snackfood for later.
