"Kung Fu" is a term which describes all of the Chinese styles of martial arts. The particular styles we focus on are Wing Chun, Lung Ying (Dragon Shape) and Luk Hup Ba Fa.

Wing Chun was developed by a Chinese nun, Ng Mui, over 300 years ago and is based on scientific and physics principles. Wing Chun is very practical for self defense because its main focus is on efficiency and effectiveness instead of power and force. The style helps improve balance, coordination and flexibility as well as your self confidence. Wing Chun was designed by a female for a female and thus relies on superior technique rather than size or strength. This makes the style suitable for both males and females of all shapes and sizes.

Closely related to Wing Chun is Lung Ying (Dragon shape) kung fu. This was Ng Mui's signature style before she invented Wing Chun. This style holds different priniciples to Wing Chun, but they are complementary to each other, and hence may be taught concurrently and add another dimension to training. No other Wing Chun school in the world teaches these two styles together.

The third style we practice is called Luk Hup Ba Fa (Liu Ho Pa Fa in mandarin) which is similar in some ways to Tai Chi. It is a style that like Tai Chi promotes longevity and health while also being a deadly yet beautiful (to watch) martial art. There are only three people in the Southern Hemisphere qualified to teach this art, two of which are Barry and Anne Pang

* Anne Pang *

Classes are expertly supervised by Sifu Barry Pang, who has a lifetime experience in the Chinese, as well as Korean martial arts. Sifu Barry Pang is the winner of the 1996 Blitz Magazine Hall of Fame Kung Fu Tribute Award and Barry's wife, Anne also won the 1998 Blitz Magazine Woman Self Defense Instructor of the Year Award. Our classes offer a unique opportunity to train with this extraordinary man in a relaxed, vibrant atmosphere. The club also offers the rare opportunity of organising Woman Self Defence course instructed personally by Anne Pang.

We have strong associations with the Kung Fu Clubs at the Melbourne, Swinburne, Deakin, RMIT, VUT, and LaTrobe Universities.

The Victorian University Kung Fu Association has just been recently formed to assist all the university kung fu clubs. It's main purpose is to make sure every clubs are running smoothly and to assist them when any difficult situation arises.

Martial arts is not only beneficial for self defense, it is a form of art in which you can train your body and mind to work together more harmoniously. The Wing Chun style of Kung Fu prides itself on efficiency of movement, with an emphasis on a strong stance and loose upper-body for control over your opponent. Other benefits of martial arts include learning to achieve goals through discipline & patience while building self confidence and respect for others. The club offers a training area and social events so that members can meet each other and make new friends in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.
