What is Community Involvement (CI)?

Community Involvement (CI) is a social action club, a group of volunteers. We are not affiliated with any religious or political organisation. This club is founded way back in the 1967, and formerly known as Social Involvement (S.In). This club has conducted some notable event and many is recorded in "Thirty Years: A History of Clubs and Societies at Monash University 1962 - 1992" (editors: Edwina Hanlon & Justine Copley).

During '75 they came up with the idea of a mobile soup kitchen which was to replace a recently closed Fitzroy drop-in centre. This exercise required much work on their side, but it was extremely successful ans well organised as an excellent demonstration of social action. ...

In 1993 we decided to change the name in order to match our goal more closely, that is to help the community, especially the needy. While there are a lot of other more vocal organisations, we believe that actions speaks louder than words.
Our activities are more down to earth, such as helping the community especially the one around us (in Melbourne). We are currently helps a number of social organisations by supplying volunteers.
Those organisation are: And these will be extended further in accordance with members' request.

How can I get involved?

Easy, just come to our weekly meeting on Thursday 1:00pm at room 204 in Menzies Building.
The activities coordinators (if they are around) will explain the activities and you can choose any one. If you choose not to join any, it does not matter. Just stick around if you enjoy the company of us (and also our parties - which is often done to celebrate just about anything).

Do CI have activities other than volunteering?

As indicated in the answer of previous question; yes, we do! We have parties (volunteers are not boring) and also go out either for a camp or just a picnic. We are very active socially, and are very open to any interesting social activities. As a member you can just throw in the idea during our weekly meeting and together we will decide on it.
For up to date information on our social function, come to our weekly meeting or read The Universal on this page regularly.

How much do we have to pay to join in?

Good news for you. Unlike other clubs, we do not charge for membership. It is free, and no catch.

I have more question!

Good! Feel free to drop in anytime during our weekly meeting, or mail mail icon to us.
