Regular Activities in Community Involvement

=====================================

Detailed Description of our activities:

Most of the existing activities will resume as regular activity in 2 weeks after the semester starts, except Sacret Heart Mission which runs continuously. (People have to eat daily.)

Existing Activities:

Dixon House

Situated near Clayton station is a clean, air-conditioned center which caters for the language needs of adult migrants who have recently arrived in Australia. Here we help tutor them in basic English lesson and help to break down some of the language and cultural barriers.
Time: Friday afternoon.
(for pick up, meet near Coffee Kart, Menzies Building, every Friday 1:00pm)
Co-ordinator: Kirsty MacLeod.

Oakleigh Intellectually Disabled

This program involves getting out with people who are mentally handicapped. This will bolster their ability to communicate with others and develop their experience of life to the fullest. The activities usually involves going out to movies, zoo, circus, and so on and there is a regular disco night every Thursday night (6:00pm - 8:00pm).
Abba fans especially wanted.
Time: Thursday 6:00 pm, at 773 Warrigal Rd.
Co-ordinator : Mark Livingston.

Sacret Heart Mission, Saint Kilda Inc.

On Saturday morning some of us make a trip to help out a soup kitchen in Grey Street in St.Kilda. We help prepare lunch, serve and clean up for those who cannot afford a decent lunch. So if you have willing hands, come with us to St.Kilda. This program is run by Catholic Sacret Heard Mission.
Time: Very flexible, come and leave anytime between 10:00am to 1:30pm on Saturday (Group) or anyday you like (personal).
Co-ordinator : Chris Mitchell and Gerard De Silva.

Westall Conversation Class

A group of CI goes down to interact with Westall students in a much more relaxed manner as we play board games, have a cuppa and converse with them so as to improve their confidence in using English or giving symphatetic ear to their problems.
Time: Tuesday lunchtime, leaving Monash Uni at 12:00pm and returning at 1:40pm.
(for pick up, meet near Coffee Kart, Menzies Building, every Tuesday 12:00pm)
Co-ordinator : Siri Gunarwardana.

Westall Tutoring Service

Close to Monash Clayton is a high school with 95% of students who come from ethnic background. CI's Westall tutors seek to aid them in their studies of English, Maths, Accounting, Science, and so on. Our aim is to foster an atmosphere of understanding and and academic progress.
Time: Thursday afternoon (2:45pm or 3:15pm - to be decided)
(for pick up, meet near Coffee Kart, Menzies Building, every Thursday 2:40pm)
Co-ordinator : Liad Lifshiz.
We are always open to new activities, subject to members interest and approval.
